Brno Reservoir - Prýgl

Brno Reservoir - Prýgl
Experience 15 km

The Brno Reservoir, also known as Prýgl, formerly served as a water supply for Brno and as a source of electricity. The reservoir is also referred to as the Brno Water Reservoir or, in the past, the Kníničská Reservoir.

Six steamboats powered by eco-friendly electric engines navigate the waters of Brno's Prýgl. Brno's boat transport is part of the Brno Public Transport Company. The piers are equipped with restaurants and terraces, which are very popular during the main season.

Almost all types of water sports can be enjoyed on the reservoir. It is a popular spot for recreation. On both sides, the reservoir is lined with extensive forests, offering opportunities not only for swimming and water sports but also for hiking and cycling. A frequent destination for visitors is the nearby Veveří Castle, perched on a cliff near Veverská Bítýška, which can also be reached by steamboat. A pedestrian and cyclist bridge has been built across the reservoir near Veveří Castle. In winter, the reservoir becomes a paradise for ice skaters and cold-water enthusiasts.

On the surface of the Brystřice section of the reservoir, the prestigious international fireworks competition Ignis Brunensis is held regularly.
