Brno city center
Cultural monuments 5 km

Brno is a mix of monuments and interesting sites, dominated by two hills right in the city center. Petrov, where you can admire the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, and Špilberk with its extensive castle complex. Below Petrov is the Zelný Trh (Vegetable Market) with the Parnas Fountain and the Holy Trinity Column. In its immediate vicinity is the Old Town Hall, featuring the so-called Brno Dragon in the passage, the crooked tower, historic halls, and a viewing tower.

The very center is dominated by Freedom Square (Náměstí Svobody, or "Svoboďák"), which serves as the central hub for many cultural festivals and gatherings. The square is lined with a diverse mix of buildings in various architectural styles, featuring the Marian Plague Column, the historic Klein Palace, and the House of the Lords of Lipé, a modern bronze fountain inscribed with verses by Jan Skácel, and the much-debated Brno "astronomical clock".

In the immediate vicinity of the square stands another Gothic architectural landmark, the Church of St. James, featuring a statue of a cheeky figure sticking out its bare backside toward Petrov. A little further is the Moravian Museum, with the Church of St. Nicholas as its dominant feature and a statue of Margrave Jobst of Luxembourg.

Brno also offers a diverse underground world, including the Labyrinth under the Vegetable Market, the Mintmaster's Cellar, and the second-largest ossuary in Europe. A new attraction is the open water reservoirs on Žlutý Hill, which won first place in the "Tourist Innovations of 2020" poll.
