Denisovy Sady

A city park located on the slope of Petrov Hill between the city center and Husova Street. It is in close proximity to the center of Brno and offers a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings.

The terrace at the top of Denisovy Sady provides views of Špilberk, Old Brno, the nearby Brno Exhibition Center, and office complexes including the AZ Tower skyscraper, extending southeast where, in good weather, you can even see the Pálava Hills.

The park features a colonnade with a fountain and an obelisk from 1818 commemorating the victory over Napoleon. In 2003, an extensive renovation of the park was completed. On the southeastern side, a cross was erected to commemorate the Pope's visit to Brno in 2009.

Špilberk Park

Špilberk Park spreads across the hill beneath the Špilberk Castle. The park is lined with well-maintained paths and features several trails. The route from Šilingrovo Square passes through Pellicova Street, and right at the park entrance there is an outdoor gym and a children's playground. Higher up the slope, you'll find grapevines, and a bit further up, the statue of Jan Skácel by Jiří Sobotka – a face constructed from steel tubes, allowing viewers to look through it and symbolically see Old Brno through the poet's eyes.

On the southern side, there is a viewing pavilion from 1885 and a pétanque court.

In the northwest corner of the park, near another children's playground, shines the gilded dome of the Orthodox Church of St. Wenceslas. On the northern slope stands a monument to the park's founder, Christian d'Elvert, and there is also a memorial to a musical composer.

On the eastern side stands a monument to the Italian Carbonari, who were imprisoned in the 19th century in the so-called "Prison of Nations," as the Špilberk prison was nicknamed.

Open Garden

The Open Garden at the base of Špilberk Hill (accessible from Údolní Street) is an educational and advisory center operated by the Partnership Foundation. The project was created based on designs by architects Adam Halíř and Ondřej Hofmeister and consists of two parts – a unique passive house with a green roof and an educational trail running along the sloped site with plantings.

The elongated building with a flat roof functions as an open structure. Plants climb the exterior façade, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the surrounding garden. The building is designed to passive energy standards and is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The complex includes a garden designed by architect Lucie Komendová. There are twelve art installations representing the elements and natural phenomena. In addition to relaxation, the garden is used for environmental education and hosting various social events.
